On paper, he looked prepared, but like many students, he felt something was missing. He wasn’t getting the kind of responses he expected from companies and somewhere inside he knew the gap was not the degree, but the skills employers were actually looking for.

After a year of applying and getting no real opportunities, he decided to take a step back and ask himself a very important question: What am I missing?

That question became the turning point in his journey and eventually led him to Financial Modeling training. Today, he is working at Jarvis Invest as a financial analyst and his growth has been great to watch over time.

Here is a conversation we recently had with him about his journey.

Q1. Let’s start with your background. You already had an MBA. So what made you feel the need to learn Financial Modeling?

Honestly, during my MBA most of what we studied felt very theoretical. Nothing felt connected to what companies actually do. Once I started applying for finance roles and reading job descriptions, I realised I wasn’t even close to the skill level companies were asking for. Everything looked unfamiliar. That’s when it hit me that I needed something practical, something that would actually prepare me for the kind of work I wanted to do. While researching, I kept coming across Financial Modeling as a fundamental skill for finance roles, so that’s where the thought started.

Q2. What made you finally join the course? Was there a point where things felt stuck?

Yes. A whole year went by after my MBA and all I got were rejection mails. There was no progress and that started bothering me. At one point I asked myself what I am missing and the answer was clear. I didn’t have the skills. That’s when I decided I couldn’t wait any longer. I needed to do something that would actually make a difference in my resume and confidence. That is when I decided to join a financial modeling course.

Q3. How were the initial days of the course? Did any topic feel difficult or overwhelming?

The first few days were eye opening. Concepts I thought I already knew turned out to be completely different when applied practically. Even basic Excel wasn’t as basic as I assumed. I used to think I was good at it, but the moment we started solving real business cases, I realised I had only scratched the surface during my MBA. There were moments where I felt slow but in a good way because I knew I was learning the right things.

Q4. Did it ever feel strange to study again after MBA?

Not really. I actually like learning. It felt good to study something that finally made sense and connected to real roles. Instead of memorising or preparing for exams, this felt like building skills I would actually use. So the process felt meaningful and not repetitive or boring.

Q5. Do you feel Financial Modeling changed the way you work now?

Definitely. Before this, I did not know how to approach real work. After completing the course, I finally understand how finance roles operate in real companies. How decisions are made. How data is analysed. It shifted my mindset completely. Now I work with a lot more clarity and confidence.

Q6. What would you say to MBAs or finance students who feel stuck and don’t know what to do next?

If someone is feeling stuck, I completely understand because I was in the same position. An MBA gives you a degree but not skills. If someone wants real opportunities in finance, they need practical training. A structured course like financial modeling from a good institute makes all the difference. At The Wall Street School, everything was hands on and structured. If you follow the modules the way they teach, you will develop skills that companies look for. This step helped me get my break at Jarvis Invest and I am glad I made that decision.

Rohan’s story proves that you don’t need to start over, you just need to skill up in the right direction.
