How did you manage to decide in terms of the course that you wanted to do to build a career in Finance and Accounting?
I came to know about the “Integrated ACCA Coaching + Skills Program” offered by The Wallstreet School after connecting with professionals who were already pursuing different courses with the institute. My parents and I also interacted with Mr. Amit Jugia (Managing Partner for the accounting programs) for a detailed career counselling session. I also went through the LinkedIn profiles of some of their key faculties to understand the way they were contributing in helping students and professionals build career in the field of Finance and Accounting. Read on to know about her career dilemma and how she managed to find the right course for herself.
Here is a transcript of her interview with us –
Why do you think that making the right career decision was so difficult for you?
I always wanted to pursue a career in finance and accounting. Coming from a family of Chartered Accountants, my inclination to the world of finance and accounting professionals was a no brainer. However, I had 2 inhibitions – firstly I was afraid of mathematics and secondly, I wanted to pursue a degree course that would be lead me to global opportunities in the future. However, since I was not aware of the options available, I kept the option of pursuing CA was by default my 1st choice.
Teachers are generally a student’s first mentor. Given my interest in painting, my teachers recommended me to build a career in painting and apply for institutes such as Pearl Academy or NIFT. The idea sounded exciting, but somewhere my parents and I were not fully convinced given the fact that career prospects as a painter in India were far and few.
I am sure you would agree that for a student of my age it is very normal to be confused of things to do, how and when. I kept my plan of pursuing CA active and despite my lack of interest in mathematics, I decided to continue facing my fear with mathematics. I also convinced my parents to allow me to choose painting as an additional subject. This would keep me motivated (smiles).
I had heard from my seniors that by being at the “Right Place”, with the “Right Person” and at the “Right Time” could many a times be a life changing moment. I never thought I would actually experience something like this, before I met Amit Jugia sir from The Wallstreet School. I was referred to him by a relative of mine. I spoke to him over phone about my career dilemma very candidly. He offered me a free career counselling session to help me get clarity and make a decision that would be best suited for me. As they say – Rest is history in the making!
How did you finally decide on the best course to pursue to build a career in Finance and Accounting? How did you feel about your decision?
I had a lot of apprehensions about pursuing Chartered Accountancy. I would not deny the fact that most of them were things that I had heard from people around me. To add to it, I was also aware of my limitations and as a result CA did not seem like my cup of tea. Amit Jugia sir was kind enough to walk me through the different options that I could consider.
During my interaction with him, he not only helped me understand the pros and cons of the different courses in the field of finance and accounting but also helped me understand the eligibility criteria to pursue them. Over the 2-hour conversation we discussed aspects such as recognition, curriculum, exam pattern, no of exams, career options in terms of different job profiles, pass rate, timing of the exam etc.
Honestly this is exactly what I was looking for. I wanted to take a well-informed decision about the course that I wanted to pursue so that I not only own my decision but also put in diligent efforts to complete it. By the end of the discussion, I arrived at my final decision which was to pursue ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants) course.
The next step was to convince my parents. However, with Amit Jugia sir as my mentor beside me, I was confident that not only will my parents approve my decision to pursue ACCA, but also provide me their full support. Another round of discussion with Amit Jugia sir and my parents and we were all committed to me starting my ACCA journey. I started my “Integrated ACCA program” right after my class 12th board exams.
If I had the option to re-create the moment when I finally found the course I wanted to pursue, I would just get up and jump in the air (smiles). I was clear, confident, and happy about my decision.
I enrolled myself with The Wallstreet School in June 2021 as they say rest is history.
How has been your experience at The Wallstreet School?
I have always been a curious person and this took me to enquire about ACCA coaching at different institutes in New Delhi. For me the key decision-making elements were – faculty experience, quality of teaching, Live classes, and overall guidance throughout my ACCA journey. Some institutes were not very responsive, others had recorded lectures. The WallStreet School team, even offered me the option to attend a free demo session to acclimatize myself with the way of teaching. Finally, I decided to enrol myself with the Integrated ACCA program at The Wallstreet School.
I am glad that I made a well-thought decision to join “The WallStreet School” and embark on my ACCA journey. It has been an absolutely amazing experience so far. Every faculty is knowledgeable and guide you not only about the subjects they teach but also provide guidance on the right things to do to achieve our ultimate goal of building a good career in finance and accounting. I found my teachers and mentors both at “The Wallstreet School”.
Over the last 1.5 years, I have completed the ACCA Applied Knowledge Level which consists of 3 papers (Business & Technology, Financial Accounting and Management Accounting). I have also cleared my 1st exam of the Applied Skill Level and awaiting result of the 2nd skill level exam. All this has been possible through the high-quality teaching, quizzes, mock tests and feedback provided by the different faculties. Learning can be fun and yes I am surely having fun. I would like my heartfelt Thanks to The Wallstreet School. and their panel of esteemed faculties (Mr. Akhil Iyer and Mr. Amit Jugia) in playing a pivotal role in shaping my career so far.
