Is CMA US Worth It After B.Com? Keerthana’s CMA Success Explains Why

Yes. A B.Com graduate can clear CMA US with structured guidance, consistent preparation, and an exam-focused study approach. Keerthana’s success in clearing CMA US Part 2 shows that disciplined learning and the right mentorship make the certification achievable.

Keerthana’s journey did not start with an exam result. It started with a decision to push herself and aim higher. Coming from a B.Com background, finance had always been a subject she enjoyed during her college days. She liked understanding how numbers worked behind business decisions. As she moved closer to graduation, one thing became clear to her. A regular degree alone would not be enough in a competitive finance world.

While looking for a professional course, she came across the CMA US course. The course aligned well with her interest in management accounting and financial planning. It also offered global career opportunities, which made it a strong choice for her long-term goals.

The journey that followed was not simple. Moving from traditional college exams to CMA’s application-based pattern required a complete shift in preparation. The MCQ format was new, and the level of analysis expected was much higher. Along with this, managing college studies and CMA preparation together became a daily test of patience and discipline.

Keerthana stayed committed through it all. She enrolled at The WallStreet School as she was looking for some top US CMA coaching online, where she received structured guidance, regular mock tests, and consistent doubt-solving support. Below is a transcript of her interview with us:

Q1: Can you tell us about your background and how you chose finance as a career?

I’m Keerthana Sanal from Kerala and I recently completed my B.Com in Finance and Taxation. My interest in finance started during my college days, where I enjoyed understanding how businesses manage money and make decisions. Over time, I realized that just having a graduation degree would not be enough if I wanted to grow and stand out in this field. I started exploring professional courses and that’s when I came across CMA US courses. What really attracted me was its global recognition and the strong focus on management accounting. I felt it would help me build a solid base in finance and also prepare me for better career opportunities, including roles with international exposure.

Q2: Now that you’ve cleared both parts of the US CMA exam, what’s going through your mind? How does it feel?
Clearing both parts of the US CMA course feels incredibly fulfilling and honestly a bit surreal. There’s a strong sense of relief because the pressure of exams is finally off, but at the same time there’s pride and gratitude for everyone who supported me. When I think about the long study hours, missed plans and moments of self-doubt, it makes this achievement even more meaningful. More than just passing an exam, this journey has helped me build confidence in my abilities and given me clarity about my career direction.

Q3: Looking back at your entire CMA journey, what do you think was the biggest learning for you?
The biggest learning for me was the importance of hard work and consistency. The CMA journey taught me that you cannot rely only on motivation because there will be days when you feel tired or overwhelmed. What really matters is sticking to the plan and showing up every day, even if progress feels slow. Over time, those small daily efforts add up and this mindset has helped me not only in exams but also in handling responsibilities more maturely.

Q4: How did the training and support at The WallStreet School help you through both parts of the CMA exam?
The training and support I received during my CMA coaching classes helped me a lot  in my US CMA journey. I am especially thankful to Moosal Sir and Abhay Sir for their constant guidance and Shilpi ma’am for her mentorship. The concepts were explained in a clear and structured way, which made even difficult topics easier to understand. Regular support, doubt-solving and motivation helped me stay focused and confident throughout both parts of the exam.

Q5: For students who are thinking about starting CMA US, what advice would you like to share from your experience?
My advice to anyone planning to start CMA US would be to begin early and stay consistent with your preparation. The syllabus may look overwhelming at first, but with the right guidance and a disciplined approach, it is completely manageable. At the same time, the exam should not be taken lightly, as it requires regular practice and revision. Most importantly, believe in yourself, trust the process, and don’t panic during the journey. Steady effort and patience really make a difference.

Her CMA journey stands as proof that with clarity, discipline and the right mentorship, even the toughest goals can become achievable milestones.
